Live Caricature at the Quiet Man Bar

Some more Live Caricatures drawn at this great Irish Pub "The Quiet Man" in Flemmington Melbourne. I had the luxury of spending more time on these drawings, most were done in around 6-10 min.

Live Caricature

I know I know....I've been slack with this blog thingy

Over the past few month's you could say I've been chasing my tail with deadlines (you all know what i mean ) ..personal stuff and Illustration work (that I can't share at this time)

Anyway , In September I was invited by some Sydney Artists to draw Live Caricatures at the Melbourne Show. Having never drawn Caricatures in a retail enviroment I thought I might as well give it a go for a few days at least to see if it's something I might consider doing again

Well, I did have a fun time and it was great drawing along side other Artists for a change as it's something I rarely get the opportunity to do. In the mornings for warm up myself and another Caricaturist Josh Spencer would draw each other, some more extreme than others. Here are some photo's I did manage to take with my phone

Josh Spencer aka: Nick Frost !

James "The Riff Master" Hetfield WIP

Over the past several months i've been in a creative & motivational black hole and to try and turn things around I'm making an extra effort to sketch more, paint more, network more and what's helping is by throwing things up here for fellow bloggers to see, i'm starting to feel good about producing art again.
Anyway...I'll be using this sketch of Metallica frontman James Hetfield as the basis for another PS Painting. Over the next week or so I'll update the progress

Rat Bug

This nasty looking Beetle is something I've been tooling around on-off for the past few months. The distorted perspective was the my main focus for this and like the Bus before I had to make it a Ratter

The guy from Twilight...Robert Pattinson

This Caricature was done as a gift for a special young lady who happens to be a hardcore Twilight fan....and that's putting it lightly.

Gift Caricature

I came across this Acrylic Caricature while cleaning out the hard drive... so I thought I might as well post it on here. Completed in around November last year this was commisioned for a 40th Birthday present-Matted and Framed. I do remember the Birthday boy loved playing Golf (he drove his buggy from his house to the green !).. drove a BMW X5 and drank XXXX (*barf*)

Live Caricature 15/5

..I rarely get the time to stop to take photo's while sketching live...or I forget to pack the camera !...anyway these are the 3 drawings I did manage to take during a store opening gig. I reasonably happy with these as I made an effort to keep each drawing under 4 min
The only time this guy smiled was for this photo...by the way he didn't like the Caricature

VW Rat Van Caricature

Being a fan of the "Rat/Ratter" hotrod... I thought it would be cool to Caricature an old VW Delivery Van ...one of my all time favourite cars to draw.  This was completed in Photoshop over the past couple of weeks...in between paying jobs

Australian Cricket legend Richie Benaud

I've got to admit I was alittle sad when I heard the news that Richie Benaud declared his innings over.... as Captain of the channel 9 commentary team he's been the face of Cricket for the best part of 40 years.
It's known that he hasn't seen an Australian winter in over 35 years so I really wanted to exaggerate the tanned skin tones by giving him an almost bronzed up complextion set agains't the trademark off white blazer and pastel coloured shirt.
I'm not to sure about the background at this stage, I was thinking of maybe adding a wicket backdrop or something....  but one great thing about Digital art is that I can go back to it anytime to adjust or change it

Caricature of what's his name......

I've seen dozens of Caricatures of Obama, so I'd thought it was about time that I had a go...
This is a quick 15min sketch taken from my sketchbook

Ian Thorpe

I feel sorry for the Thorpedo, always having to squash rumours about his sexuality, I wish the media would just leave the legend alone to grow fat in peace.
Anyway this was done in Photoshop over a couple of late nights with the help of a few Bourbons.  I deliberately used only two of the preset brushes here but for the next one i'll be using some of the custom brushes that I created in Photoshop

Digital Sketch

Done awhile ago now...Here's my first ever attempt at digital painting,  a sketch of my good buddy and fellow Artist Spiro. For 2 hours and on one layer in Photoshop I basically grabbed a variety of preset brushes and scribbled away. Recently i've decided to give the digital stuff another crack so over the comming weeks i'll post some more

Benjamin Pascoe

Here's two quick sketches of my 6 month old son Benjamin. The Day he was born I started an A4 sketchbook reserved for drawings of him. Some are sketched live while he's sleeping, some off photo's. These two were done from photo's (approx 15 -20 min ea). Someday I plan to present these drawings to him.....Did I mention that he's the best thing to ever happen to me

Corporate Gift Caricature

Here's Caricature done for a 50th Birthday.  The guitarist here is a guy named Kevin Borich whom I'm told was pretty big here in Oz during the late 70's. I didn't leave myself much time to complete this one so there's a few things here and there I could have refined abit more more but overall i'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

I actually took note of how long each stage took to do :
Concept sketch / line drawing 2hrs
Painting 11hrs
Matt and Framed 45min

Acrylic on Canvas 30cm x 41cm
